i graduated spring of 2012, and i've finished one gap year with a mostly full time job, some volunteering, and a july 2013 MCAT with a (probably) low 30's score.

i have another gap year before sending in my apps in 2014, and i am looking for some advice on what to do. unfortunately, i can no longer continue my job from the first gap year.

right now, my plan is to restudy for the MCAT, take additional courses via DIY postbacc, continue volunteering/community service, and finish publishing my novel. how does my second year-plan sound? it seems pretty packed and productive.

What is DIY postbacc?

I would consider doing more activities.

DIY means do it yourself, which means i'll be just taking classes at a state university without enrolling in anything.

and do i really need to do more? i mean, classes + MCAT studying + volunteering/service + publishing my novel should be plenty of experiences, no?

i am under the impression that med schools dont care overly much about what you do during gap years, as long as you are productive.
