Second Look Weekend at Penn State

hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone is going to penn state's second look weekend on April 1

I'm trying to figure that out. If it were more convenient, there would be no question that I'd go. However, it's a good 4 hour drive each way for me and is happening during an extremely busy weekend at school.

Could anyone give a general schedule of events? Can one expect to learn a heck of a lot more about Penn State (that you couldn't figure out at your interview or on your own), or is it more about forming some connections with other students for housing, etc.?

I'm pretty undecided about my schools. Are these second look days (in general) that much more helpful than interview days in terms of learning about schools and making decisions?

Here's last year's schedule: Though its prob going to be a little different than last year.

8:30 - 9am Check-in and registration
9 - 9:30am Welcome and introductions
9:30 - 10:00am Student perspectives and PSU COM curriculum
10:00-10:30am Introduction to Pediatrics at Penn State COM
10:30 -11:00am Introduction to Cardiac Physiology
*Campus bookstore will be open from 11am-2pm
11:00 -11:30am Financial Aid Overview
11:30 -1:00pm Lunch and Student Organization Fair
1:00 -1:30pm Humanities at Penn State
1:30 -3:00pm Problem-based learning (PBL) mini-case
3:00 - 3:45pm Student Panel Q&A
3:45 -4:00pm Closing remarks by Dwight Davis, M.D. and Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs
4:00 -5:00pm Hershey Medical Center/College of Medicine Tours (optional and student-run)

I would say yeah- you can expect to learn a whole lot more about PSU- its run by the students (MS1s), so you will get a first hand account of Penn State. Any other questions?

Wow, thanks for such a detailed schedule. Sounds incredibly helpful.

The invitation said families are also welcome, and I know my parents are dying to see the school they will be helping to pay for, but I'm a bit nervous to bring them. Is it really common for parents to tag along or does it hinder students from getting to know each other and such?

Nah, there's a ton of parents that come- Its as much for them as it is for you. With regards to the students you will meet- I found that a lot I met at 2nd look did end up coming; and others didnt. So I would say its what you make out of the day. I'll be there as an MS1 so you can at least meet me.

are you guys all accepted? I'm just wondering since i'm on hold, and i was thinking maybe they send second look to ppl on hold as well since they do that to ppl at the top of waitlists at some schools....but i doubt it....have fun

Some; With blocks its really pointless to videotape, because they move so fast. They did tape physical diagnosis though.

My invitation to the second look day came with my acceptance packet, so I would assume they only invite people already accepted.
