Hi everyone!
I am going to start looking into Master's programs as a back-up plan in case I don't get in to vet school. In the next few weeks, I am going to have a few informal phone interviews with the different departments. Would it be inappropriate for me to tell them about my future goals, if they ask? I am definitely planning to reapply to vet school during my Master's program. Thanks for all of your help!!

I don't think it's bad to tell them about your future goals. Many many masters students are trying to get into medical school/dental school/vet school etc so it is not as if they won't necessarily be expecting it.

BUT! I would say don't make it seem as if you are only doing this as a back up plan. Talk about why you think having a masters could help you in the future, past getting into vet school. Make sure you know about their program and if you can find out who in each dept you will be talking to its great to know info about the qualities of the dept you are interested in and research going on.

Just make sure that you leave them with the impression that you are excited to go to their school and be involved in their masters program for reasons other than your vet school goals 👍

Yeah, this is the most important part. Here at UCD they get a lot of applications from pre-vet students for the MS programs, and when I applied late I was specifically told that I would for sure need a really good reason to be admitted to the program beyond just improving my application. Luckily, my goals are in research and my PI is in my intended area of research, so it was very easy for me to justify my reasons. It's been an awesome experience though - I don't want it to end! (maybe that's just because I've begun thesis-writing and I hate it so much and have no idea how I'm actually going to finish it. )
