So this may have been asked before, but I couldn't find a thread on it....

Is there anyone on the boards here who completed or was underway in a first residency when they decided to apply to radiology? I am a peds resident (yeah, i know, polar opposites), but was vacillating between the two during medical school. I've decided that what I want to be is a pediatric radiologist but the hard part now is getting into a second, radiology, residency.

Does anyone out there have experience in applying for a second residency? Did programs see this as a positive or negative attribute? And were there other problems that cropped up for you? (i've heard that funding for a second residency is not provided by the govt and that either the program funds you directly or you don't get a salary)

Either way, I'd love to hear from someone who's gone through the same process.

Thanks in advance.

It's not uncommon for people to switch into rads from other specialties. One of the radiologists who wrote my LORs had switched from ped's and is now a ped's rad. I don't know any specifics of the process though. good luck!
