Second thoughts on pharmacy...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Rph with some numbers after - how early did you retire?

You should OBVIOUSLY have second thoughts about pharmacy. Pharmacists just throw medication at everything. You should encourage your patients to eat right, exercise, take supplements and pray. Come join me in the SDN CAM forums to discuss.

Technically aren't physicians guilty of this as well when they are the ones seeing the patient and decided to treat them with a prescription? I agree that there is a severe neglect of lifestyle therapy and strongly encouraging patients to improve their health with lifestyle modifications. Pharmacists and physicians should make an effort to counsel patients and insist upon the need to modify lifestyle. However in the end it is still up to the patient and it's still their body. I know many diabetics that want to eat cake and just take a pill and pretend that the pill means they'll never have high sugar or complications from diabetes.

However, and I'm sure you know, not everyone's illness can be treated properly without the use of pharmaceutical agents. Some people no matter how much they exercise and eat healthy will have high cholesterol, some will still have high blood pressure and there are other things that although may be greatly impacted by a healthier lifestyle will still require medication therapy as well.

The fact that you called all of the negative people on this forums trolls really made my day. This career is getting more competitive and bringing out the worst in people. The only advice I can give people is to speak with actual pharmacist and get their opinion about its future.

OP,

I say go for medicine. Both professions will have to deal with serious problems over the course of your career. However, with medicine, you'll have more options and can always choose something that fits you. Should you choose to try and tackle health care problems (our generation will need creative leaders), there's a better chance you'll make an impact as a physician.
