What are the opinions about transferring to a different pathology program after first year? Is this a bad professional move? Is there a source of information that lists open second year spots?

It's not bad if done for a good reason. If it's because you had problems getting along with people or performing up to a certain level it will be hard to hide from that or brush it away. Wherever you go will want to know why you are transferring.

I don't know where 2nd year spots are listed. Program directors often have this type of info. If you are going to leave, you are going to have to talk to your PD eventually anyway.

I don't think this info is posted. News regarding vacancies are usually transmitted via word of mouth.

at virginia one of the first years is not coming back next year. contact Dr. Mark Wick (program director) at UVA. I'm not sure if they are going to take an extra first year or try to replace the person who is leaving with a transfer.

I know that NYU is interviewing candidates for two positions: one PGY-2 and one PGY-3.

UT Knoxville is also in need of an upper level resident... PGY-2 or PGY-3.
