One of my secondaries asks me about one of my most meaningful achievements outside of the classroom. Is it a bad idea to use eagle scout? It really was one of my most meaningful.

You need to "make" Eagle before you're 18 years old. I think the schools are looking for something you did while in college, not in high school.

Tell that to the hundreds of applicants each year who put it on their applications. To some people who are 50 years old, Eagle Scout will forever be one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives. And adcom members who were Eagle Scouts LOVE other Eagle Scouts.

how well you write it and what you make of it is probably alot more important the actual activity itself...

a good writer can could a meaningful essay about watching paint dry.

if you can do that, then you'e successfully attained a whole new level of patience that is worthy of praise.

I used the Eagle Scout, but only in the context of being an Assistant Scout Master in the Troop I continued to volunteer with during college. As other's pointed out, Eagle Scout was a high school honor, but if you continued with Scouting service activities, definitely mention it. I enjoy taking Scouts out on adventure trips, and I get huge service kudos helping teach others kayaking, skiing, mountaineering, doing what I love to do.
