Do you guys think it's too late to submit secondaries mid-October? I'm applying to a lot of schools just to maximize chances of getting in somewhere and still have a few left. Just wondering if it's worth powering through these last few?

Has anyone been accepted after submitting secondaries in October?

If you're trying to maximize your chances, then I would send them in... You have a 0% chance of getting in at those schools without returning the secondaries. If money is the hang-up, then it's a little tougher decision, but I would still do it if you truly want to give yourself the best possible chance at an acceptance this cycle.

I've still got a number of secondaries to submit. I haven't been able to finish them all yet due to a multitude of family and financial obligations. Hoping to bang most of them out in the coming week.

Right here with you. Studying for exams vs submitting secondaries...

I know exactly what you mean. A heavy courseload and all those secondaries don't mix well haha

I was in your same place 2 years ago, trying to write secondaries while taking classes and doing research. It was hard, but just keep chugging through. I submitted one of my secondaries in October and ultimately got accepted to that school. I had been second guessing spending the money on it since I thought it was too late, but what a poster said above is true - you have a 0% shot if you don't submit. If money is tight, then yeah maybe you should prioritize your secondaries and only submit the ones you have the best chances at. The game isn't over yet, especially for those schools that typically interview into late winter/early spring.

Also, schools that screen will still be sending out secondaries in this time too. I just got bombarded with a bunch of them this week (and they're all monsters). I use the fact that they were screened to help motivate me to finish them. Hope it works out for you too.

my take on this is that for most schools there still a month until the deadline. I know a lot of people that didn't submit until the week before the deadline. Probably not the smartest idea, but people still do it and still have success with it. In my opinion, if you are good enough for an interview/acceptance, it doesn't matter when you submit supplemental apps. dude I know submitted primary on last day possible (oct 15th) and all secondaries last day possible. Only school in top 10 he didn't get into? HMS. He had almost no EC's and strong statistics. So pretty average app (I put equal weight on EC's as stats). Not everyone is going to get this kind of deal obviously, but he was good enough, and it didn't matter when he applied, just that he did. Deadlines mean something. Apply before the deadline and you will be fine. If you didn't get an interview, it wasn't meant to be. Think of it like that and you'll have some mental peace.

Most schools have a pile of apps to still look at going back to early September. At the same time, most II's are booked through to late November or December at this point - some to January. You really need something unique in your app to stand a shot at this point, whether it be an amazing LizzyM score or URM status. Not saying you shouldn't go for it, but temper your expectations when you hit that submit button.
