Secondaries Now?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you even remotely want to go to those schools, then fill out the secondaries. They will look at your app. The whole "apply early" thing is an advantage, NOT a requirement. You are definitely competing for fewer seats, etc, but there's still a shot, but only if you fill out the secondary. I guess if you don't really want to attend those schools anyway, then don't waste your time or money.

I don't know about the holds at UCSD or VCU. I've heard at some schools it's almost a death sentence (it seems like UCSF falls under this category), but others you could come off the hold just days after being put on hold. I think you're just going to have to wait.

If it makes you feel any better I don't have any interviews either. 😳

I don't think this is always true. I applied to MCW last year and got a rejection letter that said that they didn't even get to my application--I applied very late. I also had a couple of friends who applied to a number of schools very late and got the same response.

Yeah, anyone know about UCSD? I'm in the same boat as Dr. Vitaminka,

"Your application has been put on hold for possible interview. This means we will not be interviewing you at this time, however, you may be interviewed at a later date. Please be advised that we only interview 25% of those receiving secondaries."

Geez, not even in the top 25% yet, they probably only take their top 5%. I think I'm toast, but if anyone knows something different, let me know.

I agree, but there are people who do get their stuff in right at the deadline and get in. So I guess I wouldn't give up, unless you really just don't want to bother with it.

As far as UCSD (I'm assuming you're waiting on a secondary?) I heard they're getting their last batch of secondaries out via email by Dec. 17 (this Friday). So if you don't get one by then, you can consider yourself rejected. Since I haven't gotten one, I'm going to go ahead and consider myself rejected now! 🙂 I don't know about their interviews though. Check the official Cali thread. Sometimes they have good info on there.

No, I'm post-secondary at this point. I was complete mid-October.

Have you been put on pre-interview hold, or are you still just waiting? I think "not hearing" is better than "hold." I've heard being on hold can be a death sentence, but some say they've gotten interviews just days or a few weeks after being put on hold, so who knows. Good luck though!

I just got a secondary from University of Utah yesterday. I had forgotten that I even applied there

I didn't even get a secondary from them last year, so I guess this is an improvement, although it does seem pretty late to be getting secondaries.

I'm not going to fill it out though. I'm going to medical school in-state here in MI, and have already bought a house, so I'm locked in.

If it makes anyone feel any better, I just submitted my last secondary today, which was the due date for electronic submission of their secondary. I'd love to go to the school, but I had doubts. However, you won't know unless you try.

Question...
If they didn't even get to look at your app, do they cash your check regardless? (I'm thinking most likely)
