-When do people who apply June 1st tend to get secondaries?

-Is it harder to get secondaries from an allopathic school than an osteopathic school? I've noticed people reporting less secondaries from MD's in the past and wondered if MD schools are selective of who they send apps to?

I'm trying to figure out the timeline for secondaries, and frequency to estimate how much I need to save for them.

You should start getting them in July or so. Some schools automatically send everyone a secondary while others will screen.

AMCAS is not released to schools until July 1 this year, so you won't start receiving secondaries until then at the earliest. Usually you receive one within 1-3 days unless the school screens applicants before sending a secondary. But the majority of schools send a secondary to everyone who applies.

i wish all schools screened so that i won't waste my time & money on secondaries!

Yeah, that's an annoyance. It also sucked having secondaries pre-written, only to receive the new ones and find out that they were changed. Thank Jesus for no more secondaries.

it sucks to write secondaries (and pay fees), only to find out later that they reject you based on your stat :|

All depends. I've had them come the moment i applied. I think what you should do when you apply, is do your homeowrk on a few schools you absolutely want to be considered for, and find out their secondary prompts and work on those. and sometimes you'll have multiple secondaries in aday that come to your inbox. I like to encourage people to turnaround in 2 weeks max, but not sure how much that has changed since I applied.

I submitted my application on the very first day possible, and I received secondaries from late June to late July. I think if you browse around MDApps, you'll find some pretty detailed information about secondary app timelines.

Can't really speak to the DO app process, sorry!

I going on a trip in late July and I'll be without internet for a week. Makes me want to cancel the trip, I want to get the secondaries back right away.

Don't cancel the trip. By late July, you'll have essentially written every kind of essay anybody will ask you for, in one form or another. When you come back in early August, it won't take you very much time at all to submit any secondaries you might have received.

It really depends upon the school.. This is the first I've hear that early applicants are more likely to get secondaries.

I like to think of most secondaries as a tax on the ever hopeful.
