Why would a dental school ask to list the other schools we are applying to? What does this information have to do with anything?
Just curious.... thank you

Who knows but adcoms? I guess if I was an adcom, it would help me gauge what kind of dental student you want to be if the schools all have something similar and how you consider yourself as an applicant.

Possibly to gauge the odds that you will attend their school if they offer you an acceptance. For example, if they see that you apply to 3 in-state schools, they may wait until after December to send you an interview so that they don't waste their time in a situation where you plan on going to your in-state school for the cheaper tuition.

I highly don't think this is the case except for IS preference public schools. Most schools asks just for statistical purposes.

I was asked what other schools I applied to and which I was interviewing at during one of my interviews. Many other interviewees had their gears grinded by the question. Sometimes adcom just want to see how you handle these types of questions. Answering the question confidently and modestly, I was able to in-return cause the interviewer to explain why I should want to attend their school the most. It felt like they were entering a competition to compete for me to choose their university at that point. A good confidence boost during the interview. Had I shown offense to a question like that, the conversation could have gone down a darker path.

That makes sense if you're a desirable applicant!
