what exactly are secondaries? do all schools have them? do they have to be submitted before the schools deadline

Secondaries are supplemental applications are some schools require. You can check the AADSAS instruction booklet for more info.
 
Not all schools have secondaries...They are like "application add-ons." Extra essays, information, questions that are school-specific. For example...if you applied to say...School X, then they might ask you why are you applying to this school, what's your motivation, what do you have to bring to the table...etc. It's a method of winnowing down the large applicant pool from those inititially screened

In short, secondary applications are applications that the schools you applied to will send to you. It is just a form to fill out, and maybe an additional essay to write. Not all school will have secondaries, but most do. You also do have to return the secondary application to the school ASAP, about 1-2 weeks after you have received the application from the school.
