I talked to the advisor at the local university due to my concern with taking the MCAT in june/july which seems to be too late from what people have told me. He said that some school will still invite you to secondaries w/o mcat scores if the rest is good. Has anybody had this happen to them?

A June/July MCAT is not "too late". It will put you a bit behind the game, but if you have a strong application elsewhere, you'll be fine. Once your AMCAS is verified, most schools will likely fire off a secondary to you straight away. Your application won't be complete at those schools [and thus eligible for interviews] until your MCAT scores come in. Don't sweat it. Just make sure those secondaries and your LORs get in to each school very quickly, so that your application is ready for review the second your MCAT scores are uploaded.

Best of luck,

Being just about as Newb as Newb gets to this whole process... I live for threads like these.

Ok I was planning on taking my Mcats next May or June AFTER I had taken my "Post Bacc" courses... --- Now I'm assuming from watching this season and doing a little dry run with the AMCAS... that the Information gets released to med schools around mid to late june of every year so if you want to be EARLY in the process you need to have all your transcripts and your MCAT scores in the hands of AMCAS prior to that date....

Question one... Should I Order a MSAR? Do I need to have one? Will my Post Bacc "advisor" have one?

Question two... Sorry I'm totally newb but I have to ask since i've seen it a million times and don't understand it any better ... I figured it would come to me and it's probably really simple... BUT... what's a "SECONDARY"? Does it mean you aren't automatically accepted but you were given a secondary review? That was my best guess.

Question three... Do Osteopathic Schools use a different central hub for their "application" services? Or does the AMCAS simply report all your transcripts, MCATS, LOR, and whatever else you file with them to whoever you instruct them to release the information? Or are you automatically placed into a Central POOL and every Med School examines your app regardless of whether you have asked to be accepted by this or that school?

I have many many more .. but for me unfortunately Life's all about Biology and Micro right now b/c if I don't get A's in this work.. I'm just whistling dixie.

yes, get one. it's cheap and incredibly informative. I got one last year and it's completely highlighted and post-it-noted out the wazoo. your advisor will hopefully have one, but I'd recommend getting your own.

after the AMCAS (or AACOMAS) application is sent out, applicants may receive a secondary (supplemental) application from any or all of the schools they applied to. from what I've seen, this may consist of simply sending in money all the way up to 8 or so essay questions that school wants answered. some schools screen by GPA and MCAT before sending out secondaries, some do not. LORs get sent in with the secondaries, and each school may have different LOR requirements. and ALL of them require a secondary fee. 😎

MD schools use AMCAS
DO schools use AACOMAS

Ok one more question..

Now I'm doing what I consider to be a dry run on AMCAS b/c obviously I will never submit this cycle because I don't have the Prereq's ...

Now I noticed you have to enter BY HAND Every single course you've taken..

Can you transfer this information from a 2006 to a 2007 application? Or do they make you every year you are involved with AMCAS manually enter EVERY single course you've ever taken ?
