I am currently buried in secondaries, and there is one of the schools that I really like that I just hadn't gotten to yet until today. I have read before that if you do not have a 2 week turn around time from the time they send you the application to the time you send it out your basically out of luck. Well, it will be two weeks tomorrow for this school. I am currently working on their essays but if I try to turn it in tomorrow I won't have time to look it over another day or send it to someone to read over etc. What should I do ? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

IMO, I think the 2 week rule is an urban legend. Some of the schools I've applied to say you need to submit it w/in 4 weeks of receiving. I say don't sweat it.

If 2 weeks was the rule, then the people with committee letters not sent until late-July/early-Aug would be screwed for non-screening, rolling schools. That seems a lil cold-hearted even for adcoms.

If a school had an actual deadline date that was a certain time after receiving the secondary, then they would tell you that. The 2 weeks you see here is more a rule of thumb to make sure that you are getting the secondaries done without just letting them sit. Since it sounds like you're getting them done as quickly as you can, don't worry about it. You don't want to sacrifice quality just to get it in an extra day earlier.

unless there's an actual deadline (as for NW), turn those in as fast as you can but a little after 2 weeks shouldn't hurt you.

technically, most schools don't have set deadlines. but it's a good idea to pump those babies out ASAP to get ahead in getting interviews.

No, I totally understand that. I just don't want to rush to much and lose quality. So far, I have submitted 4 secondaries, so I feel pretty okay. I will hopefully be submitting at least 3 more this week, and working on other ones for the following week. So, I feel as though I am doing just OKAY so far.

I love your avatar.

I've spoken with the Pritzker's assistant dean of admissions when she came by our school. Her opinion is that they use the 2 week guideline to judge your interest level. Don't turn in the secondary the next day, then they think you're just recycling essays for them. Don't wait too long to turn in your secondaries either, because then they feel that you're just not that interested in them and had been spending your time filling out secondaries for other people.

This isn't true. Many people work on essays weeks in advance and submit apps as soon as they're available. Adcoms don't look down on submitting early. I think you don't give adcoms enough credit. They can tell which essays are recycled by READING the essay, not looking at the submission date. I disagree with the last statement as well. Tons of interviews are offered to competitive candidates that take their sweet time on essays. In conclusion, simply submit as soon as you can w/o sacrificing quality.
