I was wondering when is the earliest that secondaries start trickling in, assuming that your primary application was submitted on the first day of June. Is it true that for the schools that don't screen, you could submit their secondaries right after they are made available? And when would this usually be?

I tried to search for a thread with dates of receiving secondaries, secondary submissions, but I only found the thread with dates on being complete and interview invites.

I'm asking because one of my letter writers can only start writing the letter at the beginning of June, and I don't know how long it's going to take for that person to complete the letter. I want to know if this would be too late, and if listing this person on AMCAS would obligate me to turn in a letter in the end.

Thank you so much.

That is not even close to too late. If she is starting to write it then, it shouldn't take too long. Just start working on the secondaries from last year and submit amcas right away to get verified. I think being considered complere (primary, secondary, all letters, mcat) before Aug 1 is a good goal to set.

Generally you won't start getting secondaries until at least July and most schools won't even start reviewing files until the middle of July. If your letter writer starts his/her letter in the beginning of june and can finish/submit in 4-6 weeks, you'll be fine. Generally, if you enter the letter into AMCAS you are obliged to have the letter submitted. Though you can technically tell AMCAS that they shouldn't expect the letter, i think you need a good reason to do so.
