I dont know if you have some type of fee assistance, but my GWU application fee was $100.

with 9000+ applicants they make some serious bank on the application process. I would guess they dont screen before sending out secondaries for this very reason. sometimes i get the feeling we are a bunch of suckers in this process.

Someone else has made a good point on this issue, explaining that these people spend hours and hours of their time poring over these applications, and their time is worth money. Also, when you consider the amount of scholarships etc... that the school offers, while med schools definitely are profitable, it is a costly enterprise. It also is probably to ensure that applicants at least marginally take it seriously, and only apply if they want to go there. Otherwise, who wouldnt apply to 60-70 schools?

I agree, but I think it's really insidious for a school to take an applicant's secondary money, then reject them immediately based on numbers. It doesn't cost a school $100, or even $50 to glance at an AMCAS and pre-screen it based on MCAT and GPA alone.

Yeah it's a costly enterprise, but for us as well.

I agree. Given the 10,000 or so applications that GW receives, I highly doubt they spend "hours" looking at each application. I'm sure they'll be sending out quite a few rejections as soon as they cash their checks.

because i still had to write something "list any activities since graduation, including planned activities"

Buffalo's required NO writing whatsoever.

that's why i said moderate.

Also, Hopkins will send you a brochure through regular mail. Cornell and Georgetown will send you an e-mail.

So far Ohio State's seems like the most difficult one I've gotten. Haven't finished any of them yet, it's so hard to get in gear again after so long 😛 .

i'd vote to upgrade Yale from easy to moderate. its just one essay, but its 500 words...

easy - tiny essay (~200wds about some fluff) + $$$
moderate - big essay or two + $$$
hard - many essays + $$$

Tulane doesn't pre-screen, so you're not out of contention there. I don't know much about Michigan, but I don't think you're necessarily out of the running for FSU. I haven't heard from some non-prescreening schools that others have received stuff from, so don't worry about it, probably just taking them a while for whatever reason.

I just got a letter from UPenn saying that the application would be available online starting next week. They will send us an email allowing us to access their secondary.
