Quick question: do some schools not send you an e-mail for the secondary application but just expect you to go to their website and fill it out?

Technically no, but in practice, sometimes yes. For example, SUNY Downstate didn't send me an email for some reason, I just got the link from SDN and filled it out. I did email them later on and they sent me the email that they were supposed to send me probably weeks ago.
