Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well. I had recently gotten my secondaries from some schools. Some of the prompts talk about obstacles I overcame or an experience with someone that had a different background than me. In my personal statement and primary application, I mention in great detail several obstacles I overcame and my roles as an instructor in my research lab and tutoring center. I was wondering if these essays prompts could be answered with childhood stories rather than more recent, medically related occurrences? Please let me know. Thank you so much!

All things equal, more recent is usually better. But something quite significant in your childhood could qualify. For example, beating childhood cancer is more relevant than overcoming obstacles at work as an adult which would then be more relevant than more trivial obstacles and a child.
