I know a lot of questions are being asked about secondary pictures but I could not find this specific one so I hope it has not been previously asked.

I was wondering if it's okay to use my senior picture for places that want a picture of me in the secondary applications because I am sure some of the schools I have applied to will want one. I only graduated high school 2 years ago so I look the exact same and it's professional looking (I would use the one with the black top that most schools put in the yearbook). I also would like to save money if possible and I HATE having my photo taken. Plus, I am pretty busy so would prefer to not have to go get my photo professionally done.

Lastly, do schools only recommend sending a picture or do they require it? If it is only recommended, does it hurt your chances if you don't send one?

Thanks everyone!

It's like $5 at a CVS or other type of pharmacy that takes passport photos... so idk how that is a viable excuse. You don't need actual professional photos. There certainly are other threads that talk specifically about this ad nauseum.

If it still reasonably looks like you, then they probably won't know..What are you wearing in the photo? It should be at least a dress shirt no tie in my opinion at the very lowest. but if you have changed quite a bit or if you have unprofessional hair I would get a new photo taken.

I thought it was more money than that, I thought people went to professional photo studios. & I have attached the picture so you can see it. It's a typical senior picture. & I really appreciate your input. Thanks

That should be fine - but you don't have to get a picture professionally done (at CVS or otherwise). Just look nice and have a somewhat neutral background and you'll be good to go. You could throw on a nice top or dress and go outside or in front of a plain wall and take a picture.

I wouldn't go posting your picture like that online.

Thanks NickNaylor. I guess if it works, I might as well use it.

I appreciate the concern M.MD but I was planning on only leaving it up until tomorrow maximum, I just wanted to wait until I got a few responses so I would know because it's kind of hard to describe it. Plus, I figured it doesn't even have my name on it

I mean it's probably fine. In my opinion, I don't think it's the most modest for an interview, but that is just me. I don't know much to say about women's pictures for med school apps though.

You might consider just taking a new one where you are showing less skin. Obviously the picture is not too revealing in general, but idk how schools would take it. I suppose it all comes down to "Would you wear what is in your secondary app photo to your interview?".

We can wait for more responses from people who will know more about it than myself. That being said, I would suggest at least blacking out your face so that it isn't linked.

All things considered I would recommend just taking another pic at home. It'll take all of 10 minutes and will minimize any possible weirdness people might have with sending a high school picture (pretty much everyone will know that's a high school picture). At the end of the day, you don't want something like your picture to be something that holds you back - particularly when it requires a minimal amount of work to fix.

Again, I personally don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I can imagine that some people might think it weird and/or unprofessional. Given that's the case, it's probably worthwhile just to do another one.

Ok, I will just do another. Plus I realized it may show how young I am which is something I want them to look passed. I am deleing the picture now btw

Also, did you finish an UG degree in 2 years?

Why is this getting asked so many times? How hard is it to put on a shirt and tie, stand against a wall and have someone take your picture, then crop it to the secondary's requirements?

OP is a woman, so it might look a little different.. but I guess anything to stand out 😉

I'm guessing it's frowned upon to crop a Facebook picture...even if you look semi-professional? =D

again, like said above you can just take a picture in your house somewhere as long as it is a neutral background. or if you don't like that, head to a pharmacy where they do passport photos and spend $5.

Baxt 1412, if I thought a tie and suit would make me stand out in a positive way, I would definitely do it lol.

& I graduated high school with my AA degree so I will have my bachelors in slightly over 2 years post high school graduation. I graduated high school May 2012 and will get my Bachelors this December with a minor in Sociology. I was really lucky to have the opportunity to get my degree in high school

Just wear a nice shirt, stand in front of a neutral background (I used my window shades), and have your mom take a picture using your iphone

wish i had read this before cropping a pic of me from a medical brigade.. and i have a nose ring in the pic, YIKES.
