I'm working on my first secondary application and was looking for some ideas on what the admissions committee is looking for in response to the why this school question. I'm certain I'm going to put in that it gives early clinical experience, a vibrant urban cultural center, and the opportunity to work with the underserved population. I'm just a little skittish seeing this is the first one I've done. Any ideas on how to answer the question would be appreciated. Honestly I'd love to say that the reason why I want to attend your school is that my scores are better than your average matriculant and you accept a large percentage of out of state applicants but that's probably not what they are looking for 🙂

Ditch the early clinical exposure part. You can get that independently at any school you go to.

I applied to a lot of urban schools because I also wanted to work with the urban underserved population. I think that's a fine reason if you're being truthful.

My approach to that question was why I felt I was a good fit for the school...basically, what qualities and interests I had that would complement/fit in with the philosophy, nuances, and details that made that school different from the others. Why this school instead of another med school? Why you instead of someone else? Hope that helps
