secondary question

I have a minor question. I'm filling out a secondary and it has an essay question regarding research. I didn't do any research so do I just leave it blank or do I say something like "I wasn't involved in any research" or "N/A"?

The question is:

If you have been involved in research, what did you learn that makes this type of experience worth recommending to others?

I've been leaving questions like that blank. But you could also write n/a. The phrasing "IF you have been involved in research" makes it seem like if you have not done any, than it's ok to just leave it blank.
