Hello everyone,
I am looking for advice on the best way to apply for residency or PhD programs in anatomical pathology or laboratory animal medicine. My primary interest is in research and teaching, but I also enjoy diagnostic work to some extent, which is why a residency is my preferred path, though I am open to pursuing a PhD as well.
I graduated in 2024, first in my class from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Kufa, achieving the highest GPA in the history of the college since its establishment. While my school is not widely recognized internationally, I hope my achievements will still be meaningful in applications.
Since 2022, I have been working at Sigma Veterinary Hospital, initially as a histopathology technical assistant, and after graduation, I became the head of the laboratory, and leading projects focused on disease research and animal models. I also have experience supervising and mentoring other lab personnel. In addition, I have a solid background in Western blotting and PCR techniques.
Alongside my professional work, I am currently a teaching assistant at my college, where I help teach molecular pathology and molecular diagnostics, gaining valuable experience in academic instruction.
I have applied to several programs already, but unfortunately have not been accepted so far, which is why I am reaching out here. I am particularly interested in programs that allow me to combine research and clinical exposure, but I am concerned about visa issues for the United States at the moment. Are there residency or PhD programs outside the US that you would recommend for someone with my background?
I would greatly appreciate any advice on application strategies, program recommendations, or insights from those who have gone through similar paths.
Thank you in advance!
