Hello everyone,

My name is Brent, and I’m currently a Psychiatric NP student at Duke University seeking a clinical preceptor in the San Diego area. I’m looking to complete 250 hours of clinical experience from September to December, and am actively searching for a qualified and supportive preceptor who can help guide my learning and professional development. Note: I don't necessarily need to be assigned to an NP, so that's why I'm reaching out here via the SDN.

I'm especially interested in opportunities in mood disorders and schizophrenia, but I’m open to various settings that will help fulfill my program requirements and enhance my clinical competencies.

If you or someone you know is open to precepting, or if you have any leads, I’d be incredibly grateful to connect. I’m happy to provide additional documentation, such as my resume, school requirements, or anything else needed.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration!

-Brent

So horrifying that these 'training programs' are permitted to eagerly vacuum up all the tuition dollars, provide a few mass-market lectures and then dump their students out on the street with instructions to find their own clinical training. Good luck kids!

Isn't there some kind of accreditation process that should prevent this type of scam?

Unfortunately for the OP, this is very, very much the wrong setting/forum to seek out a preceptor and I anticipate a great deal more antagonism to come. While I generally support NPs and have had repeated great experience with them (including as trainees), I do not like whenever they are expected to seek out their own rotation sites. That absolutely does need to stop and I tend to agree that if any school or program doesn't directly provide and internally schedule the entirety of its own rotation sites and preceptors, it should not be granted any sort of accreditation. This applies to DO, OT, LCSW, Caribbean MD, psychologist, etc training programs as well.
