Seeking some good advice from Professionals

I am not seeking advice as far as a career path, as I am happy where I am working as a Special Agent with NCIS. During my undergraduate work in Criminal Justice, I took a few classes in psychology, coupled with sociology, law, etc. I really enjoyed the psychology classes, and based on what I do for a job I was thinking about focusing on a Masters in Forensic Psychology.

After reading some treads, I see a lot of people talking about APA placement, school reputations, things like that. I really just want a good education. I am looking for job enhancement more than anything, and maybe going that one step further and teaching when I retire someday (in about 25 years).

So, that being said, I am looking at taking classes online due to the fact that it's hard to sit in a classroom these days. I have been trying to evaluate the few schools that have graduate Forensic Psychology programs, but would like some advice.

Is the Chicago School a reputable program?

What about Argosy? Are there any others I should/should not look at?

I want a good education, but I want the backing of a school that carries a name in the field. Any advice you have will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I would not recommend either program.

To be frank, I haven't heard of any online programs that have a solid reputation behind them. Depending on what area you are venturing in psychology, it is very difficult (particularly for clinical, counseling, and I would imagine forensic) to be done online. You may have to bite the bullet and opt for a classroom-based graduate program.

That being the case, the Chicago School and especially Argosy have reputations for being diploma mills. You spend a lot of money for the education, but the quality is not that great. Now my knowledge of these programs are limited, but this reputation is commonly held by many in the field.

My advice is to look into a master's program that may give you the supplemental education that you may want, or at least the coursework that may help with your job.

Chestnut Hill has a master's focus on forensic psychology. So does John Jay College of Criminal Justice at City Univ of New York. don't have any other info about either program, tho.

I would look at a local university that offers classes/a degree in your area of interest. Honestly an online degree will not be as beneficial, and general will cost you more money.
