It seems as if this topic is not really addressed in the neuro section of both path and neurosci. Wondering how much we have to know about this subject in respect to what is tested on step 1, besides the pharmacology. I am suspecting we should be able to at least identify all the different types at least. Will appreciate the input--thanks.

Can't give too many details, but a buddy of mine told me he had "tons" of seizure questions on his exam. Pathophys and pharm were the big ones, and side effects of the anti-seizure meds were well represented.

Good luck

Know the pharmacology of the antiseizure drugs. Make sure you know the side effects.

yea exactly--i mean a lot of it is step 2 stuff, but i think there is still some stuff we need to know. No man, I got done with neuro (I think I know it cold now...better have after spending almost a wk on it), but was looking thru FA path today and saw a section on seizures, and i realized i didn't know a whole lot about 'em--so i figured i'd ask around before i spend a couple hrs learning them.

i would recommend knowing the different seizure types. you should be able to differentiate at this point abscence from tonic-clonic, etc. id also know the "special" seizures (jacksonian, etc) beyond that, i dont think theyll ask questions about EEG interpretation, cause ive been seeing a few of those on qbank step 2, but i didnt have anything like that on step 1. (ie. 3Hz spikes, etc) id also know as others have said the drugs of choice for the common seizure disorders, and their mechanism of action/side effects. this should be enough for step 1.
