Self harm/Self injury research

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The prof in my program who did this type of research left and is now at a school without a clinical program, so I can't give that recommendation anymore. :/

Umm... Marsha Linehan, Jennifer Waltz (kind of). Tamara Loverich at Eastern Michigan University is currently looking at self-injury behaviors, though I don't think it says that on her website. West Virginia University has a suicide lab; there's a member on here who's in it, who could tell you more.

That story about the prof at your program sounds very familiar. Are you referring to JM(her initials to preserve your school name)? If so I was very sad to learn about her leaving, I was really interested in her research. Thanks for the other tips though!

thomas joiner at florida state and matthew nock (harvard university). i'll jot some more as they come to me.

Marc Karver at University of South Florida sounds like it would fit

You've already gotten some good leads. If you haven't contacted them already, I would also check out:

Kim Gratz (recently left Maryland, not sure where she went)
Peggy Andover at Fordham
Brandon Gibb at Binghamton
Mitch Prinstein at Chapel Hill (he dabbles)

David Klonsky at Stony Brook?

Kim Gratz (recently left Maryland, not sure where she went)
(he dabbles)

She's at Mississippi now but not taking students in her current position (or at least that was true as of last year).

another one: Alex Chapman at Simon Fraser (in Vancouver, BC)

Most of the others I know of have already been mentioned. You might consider though what approaches to self-harm you are interested in, and whether POIs who specialize in those might be fine working with you in regards to self-harm even if that is not the specific focus of their own research. Some of the people who have been listed here studied under mentors who don't specialize self-harm research after all.

Thanks so much for the Sheila tip, her stuff looks exactly like what I'm looking for! I'm happy to have an addition! And unfortunately, klonsky left stonybrook and is now in Vancouver... And I wanted to avoid Canadian program...

welcome welcome!
