Tremendously useful to be able to size yourself up against the last couple of years worth of applicants. You can scroll by school or fill out a survey on the homepage for rough comparisons. Also, the more people self-report, the more thorough and hence useful the site becomes:

http://www.mdapplicants.com/selectschool.php

👍 👍 👍

OMG, I think you're onto something there!

Yeah, most people on here know about this site. Many people actually link their profiles under their names.

I heard some guy named Edison just invented something called a lightbulb.

just teasing 🙂

Now we have to ask ourselves if looking at mdapplicants is beneficial, or merely stressful. I think the average MCAT on that site for matriculants was 33 or something. 😱

It's not surprising that many students don't know about MDapps.com. I didn't know about it until my junior year, and I've been pre-med the whole time. However, I find the site only marginally useful, as there are just too many variables that go into applications/acceptances, although it is fun to browse. I use USnews to find average GPA/MCAT of those accepted, which is much more useful and accurate anyways.

In your opinion, is it better than the MSAR?

It has it's Pros and Cons. The MSAR is nice in that it has information on all allopathic medical schools in the US and Canada, including general information, curriculum descriptions, pre-reqs, and sometimes info on average GPA/MCAT. The US news listings has more information on the schools that return its survey - very complete info on acceptance rates (in and out of state), academics, financial aid and tuition, etc. It also has info on many osteopathic schools. Unfortunately, US News is missing information on some schools, mostly schools that would be considered "lower tier" by some on this site. If you're interested mostly in top-50 schools (by the US news ranking, of course 😉), then US News is a much better buy than the MSAR. I would recommend owning both - they are both investments into your future medical education.
