Hey fellas,

So I am filling out my work/activities sections and am putting the description as a combination of bullet points and small paragraphs. Is that good enough or is it not suggested?

I have a question regarding one of my volunteering opportunities. My parents work as senior citizen aids and our family has grown close to the families of these citizens. As a result, quiet often I take these elderly people for shopping, appointments to doctors, and help with their chores. Does this count as volunteering? I have contributed several hours to this, and the only people I can put as contacts are my parents. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Cheers!! 😀

If it's AMCAS, it'll probably be okay. I would put it in paragraph form just so you don't get weird formatting issues though.

Definite no if it's TMDSAS. They will mess your bullet points up!

Several hours does not constitute a significant activity though. Several implies 5-7 hours. How many hours and how many months/years have you committed to that task?

It's fine to mix and match styles, but use something other than a classic "bullet" like a dash, or a star, rather than attempting to cut and paste a real bullet, so it will be visible in the PDF view when you're done.

So I have been doing this over the past 4 fours. It's pretty much around an hour per week. So I'd say around 200 hours. Is that significant enough? If so, whom should I put in as a contact.

Yeah I am putting a dash and downloading a pdf of my application to make sure nothing looks weird or funny.

Whoever's in charge of the operation. If your parents are in charge, then include their contact information. If someone else is in charge, include their contact information and have your parents talk to that person to make that they'll represent you fairly if schools do decide to call and check that you were involved (not super likely).

Re: the "activity" you intend to put on your application, I don't think that should be included. I would actually laugh if I saw that on an application, and I would certainly ask you about it in an interview. Is it actually substantial enough to discuss in an interview? I'm guessing probably not.

Thanks sir! I will certainly reconsider putting it on the application.
