Would sending just one around August be too late? Would it cause problems if I send in two (one now and one after my summer class)? I don't want my app to get delayed, but I also would like to save $10. Which is the best option?

send now. your app won't get sent out to schools until aadsas receives all your LOR and all transcripts.

don't send if you have extenuating circumstances ie you need teh summer classes to boost your gpa in a major sort of way.

i too was finishing summer classes last year and sent in my transcripts even before spring grades came in b/c i was all worried that they would get lost in the mail or something. anyways, you have to send in a second, finalized transcript anyways i think before Feb 2010. but aadsas will notify you about that. i think most people's gpa's pretty much stay the same for the last 2 quarters so i shouldn't be a big deal.

if you're worried about the money... just don't eat out for lunch for 2 days. anyways i spent about $6,000 for the cycle and i think $10 is like...pennies, haha.
:luck:

I would send now and after summer...go ahead and send now so they can begin the verification process(it takes some time!). Don't know if you wanted to go ahead and esubmit now or after summer. I would esubmit now if these summer classes were not any pre-reqs and if it wouldn't make a big difference in yout gpa. But no matter what I would go ahead and send the first round of transcripts in, it's a lot easier to verify a handful of classes and if you wanted to esubmit later they should be able to just check your new classes easily and not hold up your application as long.

LOL, I haven't gotten to the point of spending major dough yet, so $10 seems like a lot for a few sheets of paper. I'm 100% sure I'll agree with you that it'll seem like pennies in just a couple months.

Actually, one of them is a pre-req... Organic 1. Would that be a major problem?

Getting a jump start is worth ten bucks. You will have to order many more transcripts, so do not be a tight wad.

I know Organic 1 & 2 are looked at highly. In my interviews they brought up my organic grades(B in both 🙁). And I was told many time by admissions people they really like to see those grades. So it would completely be your choice. Only Organic 1 is a pre-req for you??? Or are you retaking 1 and already taken 2?

Don't they only start verifying your transcript after you hit submit? (even if they have your transcripts in hand).

It seemed like year before last I sent my transcripts in and I could see me AADSAS GPA and all that before I hit esubmit. So I assumed they had verified my transcripts to give me that GPA. Last year I submitted early so I cannot speak for that because I know my transcripts probably had not even reached them when I submitted! Seems like a phone call to the good ole ADEA could make the decision for jyc easy! If they aren't verified before you esubmit I would go ahead and esubmit now and just update the summer grades during the academic update at the end of the fall semester.

I haven't taken 2 yet. 🙁 I'm actually gonna attempt the DAT in August w/o having taken Organic 2... I changed my major to biology from computer science pretty late in the game, so I'm behind in terms of the chemistry sequence but I will still graduate in 4 years (spring 2010). My original plan was to apply next summer instead of this one so that I can build up a better resume & take orgo 2, but I've had 2 dentists and an adviser tell me to just try and go for it this year. I'm not totally comfortable with it, but I'll still give it my all. If I miraculously get in this year, then I won't have to waste a whole year doing... who knows what.

I was in your EXACT same situation. It was NOT beneficial to me one bit to take the DAT without Org. 2. Granted I know some people are very capable of learning the material on their own, I unfortunately was not one of those people. I was also advised to go ahead and apply, I got one interview out of the 15 schools I applied to. I took my DAT in August and due to the 90 day rule I could not retake until November. I had a MUCH better score in November, but since it takes a few weeks for the dental school to receive the scores I was rejected Dec. 1 before they even got to see my scores. I ended up having to reapply(early with ALL of my pre-reqs done, good DAT, and all that) and was able to get a Dec. 1 acceptance. I took a couple classes last fall just to build my science background and sat this semester out. I don't know if you have a killer gpa, which if you do then by all means you should feel better about applying this year! But that is just my story! The year I didn't get in I had also waited until August to submit once I got my DAT scores, so I did apply a little late. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.
