I am a DO applicant with currently 7 interviews (none at places where I rotated, so I am expecting a couple more), which i am kind of upset about since I applied to 96 programs 😱. I had 5 interview iv's in sept, but it has slowed down in october with only 2 which is making me nervous

I have a low 230's on step 1 but a 99 ( I dont think that matters any more)

I have recently received my step 2 score which was not that good, it is in the low to mid 220's (96). I am disapointed that I didnt do so well. The drop of is 9 points btw

The question I have is if I should send my score or not, I know it probably be asked during interviews and I am prepared to disclose my score. My question is if it is better of sending my score now or waiting a couple of weeks to maxime my interview invites?

Is the reason for my lack of interviews because of the absence of my step 2?

Any advice?

I think the invites have slowed for everyone since September. It's ASA week, a lot of PDs are there ( I know cuz I was there and spoke to a few who point blank said that they haven't sent out interview invites yet, or atleast not all of them). Some programs are waiting on Dean's letters. Others that have sent all their invites are bound to start getting cancellations.

As far as sending your score or not I can't say what would be "best". My strategy was to submit and be an open book (though I was lucky to improve on my Step 1 so I can't REALLY speak on how your situation would have affected my thinking). In the end I would guess that some PDs would respect the humility/honesty and lack of attempting to hide something while others may not. As far as how many would fall each way....... no one knows. With all that said, it might get you more interviews based on your Step 1 alone than it would going the open book route, some PDs may not rank you once they see your score in Feb or whenever but if your interview went well that probably wouldn't be the case.

Final thought, the programs that are potentially waiting on your Step 2 to offer you an interview are waiting for what reason...... To see an increase or atleast that you held par, which unfortunately isn't the case, so whether you send or not you probably aren't getting an interview from those places. However the programs that for whatever reason are just slow and are impressed enough by your step 1 to offer an interview are going to send you one without the step 2 so why potentially kill your chance with them?

Hey thanks for the reply, I guess I plan on sending out my step 2 score late November, since most of the iv will be sent out already and because that is that is when I have most of my interviews and I dont want to flat out lie and say I didnt take it, or look like I am hiding something. So on the interview they have it. But October has definitely been nerve wrecking since everyone said this would be the most active month of the application season.

Good point on the places that may be waiting for my step 2 score

Don't deans' letters go out in November? I think there's an uptick after the letters go out.

I feel like it has been a tough year for DO applicants. I'm in a similar boat with slightly lower step 1 and taking step 2 in nov. I'm sitting at 7 interviews and have only gotten invites from my 2 "aways" in October. Classmates in my position with my stats had much better luck last year. :-(

I don't think it will make a big difference either way. There's no rush to send it, unless the programs wait on it to send interviews. 7 interviews before deans's letter is ok, is the magic number still 10? If you had a step 1 of 260 and a step 2 of 190, it would be different. The scores are just not that different to sway me one way or another.

Thanks for the response everyone. I got 2 more interviews since, so I feel a little better 😉. I guess now that ASA is over, things are going to start to move

nice! i got another invite this morning too. i'll feel comfortable once i get 2-3 more..at the end of the day, i think 8-9 is definitely enough to match somewhere. 👍
