So I submitted 3 letters from science professors and one from my research PI to AADSAS. Now, I see that a lot of schools are requesting a letter from a dentist. Can I send in a letter directly to the schools? Or is this not recommended? Also, is it really detrimental to send in a letter from my research PI instead of a dentist if the option is given? Ive worked with my PI for over two years and i think his letter shows more character..

I am applying to
UCLA, UCSF, BU, Case, Pittsburgh, UPENN, UMich, Columbia, NYU, UOP, Washington, Loma linda, Wester, USC, Temple, Tuft, U Maryland, U Illinois at Chicago.

You're going to have to call each of these schools that require a dental LOE and see if they'll accept it directly to their office. If given the choice btw research PI and dental LOE, I would assume the dental LOE would be more beneficial, as it can attest to your ethical character and your commitment to the profession (from what i've read on various dental school websites).

totally different question but i just found out that i am gonna be a coauthor for two publications in journal of clinical oncology. First of all, is that gonna help my chances? Also my application is already in file, processed and sent to schools already... is there anyway for me to notify the schools?

Your publications will definitely be a plus (it's not going to hurt you), but you're not going to be able to update it on AADSAS anymore. You can email or mail a letter to the schools listing any updates, but again, check with the school on this. If you can get this in to schools, it's something you can possibly talk about at your interviews.
