Hi. Just wondering if anyone had heard anything about sending gre scores to try to compensate for low verbal on the MCAT. I got an 8 on the MCAT, but 98th percentile on the verbal GRE last year.

It may help, but I don't know how they'll view it, since it's two different test populations. Never heard of this before.

I don't think they would ever look at a gre test.

No one here is on the adcoms .. so I don't know how people here knows what adcoms look at and what the don't......... There is no harm in sending the scores.... it will just show the that you had a bad test day on MCAT...

I don't remember but I think AMCAS has place for the GRE scores as well ..... or you can put them on secondaries (Some schools have space for that) .. or just send a copy to adcoms ... worst come to worst, they would have put it on a side and you would have lost about $0.50

Hey, I actually did that! After the April MCAT, I just knew my verbal was going to be a bit weak and completely out of sync with the rest of my application -- so, before I submitted my primary apps, I added my GRE scores to the mix (my verbal GRE was in the 96th percentile and the rest of the sections cracked the 90s as well). And, who'd a thunk it?! I got an 8 VR in April.

I don't know if the admissions committee is going to look at my GRE scores -- or even care since I'm not pursuing an MD/PhD -- but I just thought it could only help. But since the GRE and MCAT are two very different tests (obviously), my GRE scores might not help one bit. Still, if you've got another set of stellar standardized scores under your belt, you might as well take advantage of them!

Just my two cents. Good luck!

PS - Retook the MCAT in August, and my Verbal score this time around was solid -- not stellar, mind you -- but solid.

I put my GRE scores on the AMCAS application, where they do allow for other standardized test scores. My scores were good, and though I'm sure they won't make up for my poor MCAT score, it may at least let adcoms know I'm not a complete ***** and that I can score well on some tests. It can't hurt, is my theory.
