Sending processing fee to schools

Some schools require an extra processing fee in check form sent in the mail. I was wondering do you guys just write a check, put your AADSAS id#/DENTPIN# on the check, put it in an envelope and send it in the mail by itself? Or do we have to attach other information to it...like a cover letter or something?

Call to confirm but I believe just your check and AADSAS ID number.
