Hey,

so I have been searching all over the forums for an answer for this but unfortunately I guess either I am looking over it or their isnt one. Anyhoo, this passed spring semester i had a rough time in school which my grades didn't come out the greatest. I have been attending to see a psychologist to understand why I was having such a hard time focusing on my school work. We have come to terms that because of a few traumatic experiences in my life leading up to this application cycle that I have some anxiety issues not serious but can be worked out due to stress.

My question is, how would i be able to defend myself in such a case when the med schools look at my transcript grades for last semester? and should I send an update letter to the schools about my visits and issues or should I not?

Sensitive topic, im just here for support I do not need any bashing at this moment. Thanks.

A lot of schools have secondary prompts that either ask you to explain inconsistencies in your academic performance, ask you if you have anything else you'd like to say, or both. You could talk about it there. I'd be careful how you talk about it, though. You don't want to sound like you're looking for sympathy, just that you're explaining inconsistencies. I would avoid explaining that it was the traumatic experiences that caused you to have anxiety issues. That sounds kind of like looking for sympathy. Instead, I'd just explain that you were having anxiety issues, but you have sought treatment and expect those issues to lessen and your performance to improve.

Okay thanks so much for that insight, so your saying I should wait for secondary prompts instead of sending an individual letter out them explaining inconsistencies?

Do not send an unsolicited letter pointing out a weakness before you have even been screened.

Yes, you should wait. You don't want to draw your attention to it if you do'nt have to.

I hope that you can get those issues sorted out. Bad grades can really haunt you, and it's important to learn to manage stress for your own sake!
Thanks, I will, Im a tough cookie, im looking to do way better next semester.
