When do most schools select the senior AOA members? Is it right at the end of third year? I would assume so, in order to allow students to inform residencies.

From what I know it's usually by Sept/Oct so that it will be in your dean's letter.

It is usually done before the deadline for ERAS. I think we did ours for the M-4s in early September. If you're curious, ask the junior members, who will be organizing the elections.

We do ours after the eras deadline.

Hi there,
Our senior AOA's were handed out just before graduation but your Deans letter contains language that indicates if you are going to make AOA. You generally cannot screw yourself out of AOA by doing senior electives. (That's why fourth year is so enjoyable!!) Residency programs know if you are likely to make AOA and treat you accordingly.

Since the national criteria for election to AOA have been beaten to death in the forums, I'm wondering how that actually works out for individual students at each school, since you don't really know where you stand in terms of that top 25% until you see your MSPE.

I mean, do you typically need to get honors in...say...half of your clinical rotations to get AOA (assuming the standard top 10-20% in each rotation receives honors)? Will board scores <230 torpedo your candidacy? I'm curious what sort of board scores and clinical grades folks had when they received election to AOA as a senior....

Are you talking about the last sentence, where they describe you as an outstanding / excellent / etc. candidate?
