Does a senior design project in engineering have any benefit in the application process?

For example:

A few years ago, one group of students designed a circuit to be added to MRI machines for cardiac imaging applications. Since MRIs use multiple slices to construct images, non-static objects such as the heart come out blurry; their add-on system corrected this.

Another project was to allow a user to type on the computer using their eyes via biopotential sensors mounted in various places on the user's face

A sufficiently time consuming, impactful team project can be listed on the AMCAS application under "Other" with your description of it in the narrative portion. If it happens to have medical implications, all to the better.

Agree with above; sure it does. If it were medically related, you'd be able to 'double-count' it as a rocking project that shows your perseverence and ability to create something awesome and also gives you exposure to healthcare. Even if it's not medically related, the fact that you were able to finish a large project of that nature is still a big plus. And, diverse interests and accomplishments make you interesting as an applicant - it shouldn't all be medically related.

Don't know why people ask questions to which they already know the answer...

Kinda needed some confirmation....on another post I had asked if a thesis counted as a publication, again I needed some confirmation

I was also wondering about non-medical design projects

I think as a general rule...if you did any scientific work / project / investigation you should use it on your application.

I can't advise you on whether or not to list it in AMCAS but I have gone all out on mentioning my design experiences in the secondaries...I think they were extremely extremely useful in building team-work and critical thinking...

Sounds good! Would the same apply for a B.S. or M.S. Thesis?

I heard that a thesis would be categorized as research, not a publication (unless it is actually published in some journal or magazine)
