Anybody know of additional forums where future opto students can find further information about the profession and field? I'm hoping to find other forums that are just as good as the SDN forums.

I tried the seniordoc.org forums, only to get kindly rejected by Paul Farkas who said I have to be in school or an actual OD. I understand they may want to keep newbies and their silly questions out, but it would be nice if they granted read only accounts. I feel like I'm being barred from information.....but that's how it goes. 👎

Guess my only other option is the optometrysucks board on yahoo with nothing but destructive comments about the field! 😛

Dear dfung,

As a moderator on one of the forums, I understand the frustration that you feel. I also know that your frustration will not necessarily wane once you do get access as a pre-optometry student. I believe many of the topics are not relevant until you enter or graduate.

For instance, I head up the discussion on practice management software and computer systems subforum. Other issues are retirement, whether polycarbonate lenses are better than ... , whether nutritional supplements are of value...etc...

HTH,
Richard

Yeah I understand the reasoning and it's justifiable. There would be a lot of content that would be completely irrelevant, though there are specific topics that would definitely be of interest to me. Understandble...

Though the moderator's response to the follow up email seemed a little unfriendly and cold. But then again, he's probably bombarded by requests like mine. That's how the cookie crumbles.
