Hey everyone,

I'm new here and have some general questions that I'd like to be answered.

First off, I'm a senior in a California high school planning on going the CC to UC route before hopefully attending med school under the HPSP scholarship. I'm interested in majoring in biopsychology, psychology and philosophy and would like to know which you recommend, the differences and comparisons between the two majors for the pre-med route and what you'd major in if you weren't pre-med. Also, what are the possibilities of a phil major & psych minor or vice-versa? I know I'm a youngin' but I am pretty ambitious.

Thanks for your help.

Both majors are compelling premedical choices for various reasons. My advice is to take introductory coursework in both subjects early on in your college experience. That will give you the personal knowledge needed to make an informed decision. You may find that you want to double-major, or major/minor, so keep an open mind.

To answer your other question: If I wasn't a pre-med I'd major in Industrial Engineering.....I've always enjoyed the idea of a career in process improvement/management.

Thank you.

Is it best to spread out general ed courses so the work load won't be too rough on the long run?

I thought it was YOLO...

OP, why don't you just take classes in both to see what you like best?

That's what I'm planning on doing. But the main thing that comes to mind is that philosophy majors tend to score well on the MCATs due to cognitive and critical reasoning skills. Maybe majoring in philosophy will help me on the long run?

But psychology has always been intriguing for me as well but I feel like it could be too generic since so many people are majoring in it.
