What's the consensus on doing 2 totally separate personal statements? I dread this immensely. Could a person just tweak their derm app and send it to prelims/TY programs? i guess they could, but would it be a good idea and have people done this in the past? Basically, i'd love to match at a nice TY before derm.

my PS's were about 90% the same, i remember only tweaking a closing paragraph for the individual programs.

Ophtho resident here. Didn't change a word of my PS for internship programs. Was never brought up and in fact my internship PD said something to the effect of -- I understand you guys are only here for a year and moving on to your respective specialities so no need to re-write your PS and BS me about how you love internal medicine.-- Haha.

I think you will be fine if you send the same PS or tweak it a bit. What internship PDs want is someone who will work hard, not call in sick every time they have a sore throat and not cause problems with fellow residents. G'luck!

I agree with SAIB, I didnt change a thing b/w my prelim PS and derm ones, got an interview at every place I applied for prelim (a few were pretty competitive). Don't sweat the PS for prelim, focus on getting a great one together for derm

Amen. That being said, I do know some people who applied to like 3 prelim spots and ended up scrambling. I did not change a single thing, and I too got an interview at every single prelim spot I applied to.
