I need to know how common/uncommon/rare/often it is for a baby to be born with a broken neck? I thought their bones were kind of soft and bendable? Maybe bendable isn't the best word but I don't know what else to use. So confused!

That's a strange question. I don't recall reading about a broken neck being a complication of any birth in any of my ob reading while I took ob, unless the ob doc was really careless with that extractor tool they use I guess. Broken shoulders and hip dislocations are much more common. The other possibility I suppose would be if the baby were born with osteogenica imperfecta, like that guy in "unbreakable" the movie, then I guess you could break a babies neck. Your right though, I don't even hear about babies breaking their neck in trauma cases, I suspect that their necks are fairly flexible and other things break first.

I know of a baby that had a cervical injury that occurred at birth. Can't remember the exact circumstances. Very sad case. He was paralyzed from the neck down and had to be trached. Around the age of three he had a hypoxic event I think from a plugged trach. that created many more problems for him.
