Hi guys, I know this question is probably kind of out there, but I'm hoping somebody might have gone through the same thing I have or know about it. Recently a hacker got into my yahoo email account and then created a new email account with my name on it after stealing my information and contacts. They proceeded to send out spam emails to my contacts with my name attached to it. :scared:

What is really worrying me is that it's MY name and MY reputation out there, although I know that it's obviously a spam message asking for money, I just hate that my name is attached to it. So my question is will this situation, which has been completely out of my control (didn't respond to any phishing emails or anything like that) could possibly affect the future in the way of background checks for DS admission or anything like that (I do not want to be blamed for spamming people and this horrible situation).

I've contacted yahoo several times about this issue, so far they haven't been of any help, but I hope it gets resolved soon.

I really don't see that being a problem. It happens all the time. That stuff isn't part of a background check.

thanks, i hope you're right! i'm definitely just really freaked out right now about the whole situation 🙁

Why would this show up as a crime you've commited on a criminal background check? Not to be rude but... you're graduating college soon and you could not reason through this?

Well, this is how my mind went: if someone reported a fraudulent email (this is one of the ones asking for money to be wired to a foreign country), my name would be tied to it, and it might be hard to prove that this isn't my account since the account is in my name. So something like that could end up on a record of some type. I could be wrong, probably am wrong, but what's happened has me nervous and upset, I apologize if I come off as incompetent or whatever it was you were implying.

You are over reacting. You'll be fine.
