I am not a current student, but chances are very good that I will be an enrolled Case student in a couple of weeks for 2008. I can give you what info I know about the school. I actually know a tiny bit more than the average interviewee because I have a good buddy in the 2007 class.
I interviewed at Case in October. I stayed three days out there, and got a real good look at the school and the area. This is my general list of pros and cons for Case:
Pros:
+Private funding (not dictated to by politicians, but still by other health professionals... good and bad)
+16 commendations last year for reaccreditation
+a real SIM LAB, that actually simulates
+1:6 faculty/student ratio
+new secretary program (saves you time/headache)
+send out lab work once you are competent (saves time)
+relaxed but professional atmosphere
+can do your own "focus on specialty" once you show competencies in all other procedures
+own operatory
+preceptor program/association with a professor and student group through all 4 yrs
+somewhat affordable housing (cheaper to buy than to rent)
+IN TOP OF NATION FOR PRACTICE MANAGEMENT CLASSES/TRAINING, this is a big plus for me... I will be a businessman in addition to a health care professional.
+excellent clinical focus
Cons:
-SPENDY, but doable
-financial aid is a bear to deal with, which is my ONLY hang-up about Case... I have two young daughters, and we plan to have more children. The fact that they are a private school has something to do with that. They give you less $ to live on (loans) for a slightly higher living-expensive area.
-Cleveland is a dirty little town, but there are a few good areas with good elementary schools (Shaker Heights, Cleveland/University Heights, Maple Heights)
-Clinics are not brand new, but whose are, right?
-Wet lab is old, but hey.. it's a wet lab.
I would like to hear any other additions to both lists from anyone!
