I have one month left before I take my exam, I have been studying for 3 weeks legit now, I have done Goljan once DIT twice Uworld once. I started with a very very low score but I haven't improved much may be like 5 points 😡. I am very much disappointed and I don't have time to sit around and have a pity party but I also don't know what I am doing wrong or how I can fix it :smack:. I would really appreciate it if somebody( a life saving angel  ) would kindly point out what I should work on to see some form of improvement, going insane over here.
Regards,
Daisy

I was planning on taking one of NBME this weekend but after my horrendous performance on UWORLD I couldn't get myself to do. Clearly I dont have the grasp of the information, so why demotivate myself more when I should prolly study a little bit more and then see how I do. Or is that not how it works?!?! Thank for the response! hope to hear from you soon.

so you're talking about growing 5 points in UWorld percentages. I think that is more difficult than in the NBMEs- but that's just my opinion. From what you said, you did a lot of material in 3 weeks and I think you only superficially studied it because it's really vast. When you will stop a little and study in depth each subject (at the end of that you should be able to teach your pet the different equations, drugs and pathologies) you will see your scores grow 😉

You aren't supposed to be scoring super high on UWorld, it's supposed to help you find and fill in your weak areas. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think if you're scoring around 65% or so you should pass? However you said you don't feel like you are understanding WHY you are getting things wrong. Do you feel like you need more help with concepts? Are you going through each question afterwards and understanding why the answer is the answer (even if you got the question right)? You still have a whole month, there's time to watch some Pathoma, Goljan, or Dr. Najeeb lectures if the problem is gaps in your understanding.

Thanks for the vote of confidence about my score growing!!! I guess you are right about the whole superficial studying, because I am almost always in the ballpark of the right answer but just not the right answer all the time. With one month left, do you really think its sufficient time to go over everything in depth and be able to score better?!?!
Also the people that I know take like two NBME's and they do quite well from what they tell me..I think its lke 11 and 7 form that everybody is close enough to the real stuff... but I don't know when the good time is to take those exams?!?! do you read the whole thing then you take it or do you take a diagnostic nbme exam and then you study as much as possible and then take another one.
I hope that all made sense.

Thanks for the response Dr.Jones.
I thought the UWORLD performance sorta gives you an idea on how well you know your stuff. and well my score fluctuates sometimes I am the 65% percent but then I will have days when I can barely break the 50% mark. I do the uworld questions and when I get a question wrong, I know I was going in the right direction or I knew what the problem was, and I will make stupid mistake about second guessing the between the two answers.
If anything I wonder how many times I can actually read the FA and be able to go through one of the Pathoma or Goljan courses in details.
Also is there a specific time frame on how and when and which NBME's people are suppose to take.
I hope all that writing while being frustrated made some sense.

The best advice I can give u is do whatever worked for you in the past. It obviously worked, so why change it?
Also, I think 65% timed random UW is good one month before exam.
I took NBME 5 to see where I stand. These made me study harder what I didn't like. Then I took NBME 6 after 2 weeks and increased 24 points (it's a miracle). Anyway, since NBMEs are more predictive then UW, I'd say take them 🙂
