what's with these ******ed goljan threads? every other one I see is about whether his new book has his HY notes or whether the last 20 secs missing from ONE audio will mean the difference b/w passing or failing..........one whole thread was STARTED by this idiot who was confused by what goljan meant when he said "know this 'hy' factoid" in his audio and if that meant whether there was some special document of HY stuff extracted FROM his already available HY materials..........does that even make sense?? goljan put togther all the HY facts he knows and you want to know if there's an even more condensed set of HY?? how f*cking lazy can you get??
instead of wondering if you'll miss something if you don't read everything...........READ ALL THE GODDAMN NOTES YOU CAN FIND!
honestly, would an extra 36/100/200 pgs in addition to the book really break your back? worst case scenario, its already in the book, in which it'd be review (since youd have already read it) or whattaya know, you might find a little something extra

ppl, seriously, ALL his notes/audio are already available on the net..........for FREE............and if you really want his book, its THIRTY DOLLARS!!! in the big scheme of things, is the mental frustration regarding whether his book has everything or not really worth it?

spend the money, get the book, read his notes (ALL of them!), listen to his audio (even if it has only ONE incomplete file - and no, those missing few secs at the end of the last lecture aren't a big deal if missed)..........and stop with these *****ic threads

get some perspective and look at the big picture

sincerely,

must be that time of the month

so a woman can't get pissed without it being due to 'that time of the month'?

that said, let people continue post threads and otherwise obsess about golgan and the missing info. wasting their time is their own punishment.

thirty dollars may not seem like a lot to an insulated desi who still collects an allowance from her parents, but to all others it is still a worthwhile little sum not to be foolishly squandered on something that is available for free.

as for whether 200 extra pages would break one's back, considering that it comes on top of the equivalent of several hundred pages that must be understood and memorized practically word for word.....why add to your burden if you don't have to?

i might add that although first aid path is a pariah around here, memorizing and understanding every word in it and the underlying concepts is probably more efficient and worthwhile than to do the same for goljan or brs since both have extraneous material that is not tested on the boards. personally, i would rather spend that extra time studying first aid, any subject.

The secret for efficiency with any review book (even FA has some info that I would consider low yield) is to ask yourself

"If I were a national board of medical examiners, would I care if a medical student understood this concept or memorized this fact?"

Taking an NBME practice test earlier can give you a good feel for how a national board of medical examiners tends to think.

I could be wrong but I think she might be saying that if the book has the same info, then you don't have to memorise anything extra 'cuz you'd have already done it with the notes..............but if the book has something more thats missing from the notes, then you can memorise that too...........all in all, not an extra burden..............

then again, its a pretty heated post.........so who knows?

I say, keep asking these kinds of questions and focus on the minutae 🙂

p.s. why are we assuming its a girl? cauterize, me thinks you assumeth too much 🙂

well cultural attacks aside, the point of frustration of the OP appears to be obviously the many Goljan related posts. Unfortunately not everyone knows who Goljan is, what his materials consist of, where to find the audio (free or by paying), which HY notes is better (since he has both a 36page and a 100 page) in addition to his lecture notes, AND his book.

Since its still early in the step 1 preparation season, I can understand the confusion and i personally don't think there is anything wrong with asking the silliest of questions - at the end of the day, you want to find the information that can help you do well on the exam.... even if it may inconvenience some members of this forum. I just don't see why the OP couldn't just not open the Goljan related threads rather than read them, get frustrated, and then decide to create a goljan thread hating on goljan threads.

lastly, is the OP even a girl? i didn't see anything in the post to suggest such

well put skyline...........perhaps someone can start a goljan thread listing all his materials, where they are available, how much etc and make it a sticky........not just to prevent heated posts like the OP's but so that newer members can have the info readily available to ease their doubts

p.s. I just got the goljan book and have to say, it rocks!!

I'm a fan of the book also but the biggest problem I have with it is having to jump around from topic to topic to follow along with his audio. today I opened up the pdf file of systemic path and it was much easier to follow so I suppose for anyone who doesn't have a printing limit at their school, they could just print out the path notes and not worry about jumping around. Though the pictures in the RR book are great to help visualize some things that he mentions.

well, i read a couple of old posts of original poster, and ya'll were right. he's a guy. (could be a lesbian girl, but i doubt it because indian families tolerate very little independent and original thinking, and most likely an indian lesbian would be murdered by her parents and quietly disposed of, with her friends being told she decided to move to india).

not putting desis down (i am one)

even if you're indian, that doesn't mean you aren't insulting the whole group. It seems that your experiences seem quite tainted as many of my indian friends and their families are quite the opposite of what you have just described. They may be conservative but not totally backwards as is implied.
