so im just sitting here at work and the doctor i work for doesnt have patients today bw 2 and 330 so she and her friend that work here just went up the street to wal mart. So Im seriously board out of my mind. the only thing that i have is sdn. and im perfectly happy getting paid and sitting here with sdn, my mistress as my wife calls it. oh i also gave in my 3 weeks cause im starting umdnj's post bach and im currently looking for a place to move down there.

but anyways. whats going on with the pre do community? hows everyone doing? how are your application seasons coming along? and if your the minority like myself who do not have an acceptance yet, why do schools not love us?🙁

Whoa what happened to all your applications? I hope your not throwing in the towel early! However, if it didnt work out this round its good to hear you will be attending a post-bac.

I applied to a lot of schools, got 3 rejections, on hold at 3 (AZCOM, VCOM, and KCOM) until I finish my OChem 2 retake....interview at Western and Touro next week. We have very similar stats if I remember correctly....so dont lose hope. I had given up on EVERYTHING except for Touro and randomly Western called 2 weeks ago......a school where I am 0.3-0.4 BELOW their average GPA acceptance last year. I thought it was a long shot...and now I have an interview. I am by no means competitive based off stats. So keep in mind schools look at the WHOLE picture🙂

Good luck

Oh also, is it just me or is there an abnormal migration of trolls lately to the pre-DO forums? Maybe its that time of the year where trolls come out of hibernation from under the bridges and migrate to SDN forums? lol

well i received my late term mcat score in october (after already being verified in June) and it was disappointing to say the least. I pretty much gave up and only submitted one secondary bc I felt like it was a waste of time to apply to any more schools. Ended up receiving 1 interview and it went very well. Won't here back until beginning of the year or so, so I will just have to act as if I will not get an acceptance and study for the mcat again (ugh!). Oh well, I guess we are all a little glutton for punishment 🙂

I plan on being an extremely qualified applicant next year, so if things dont work, onward we go!

WESTERN?!??!?!? thats crazy man!. congrats, you must be extatic. Yeah, my aps are all still out. rejected from 3 schools crickets from the rest and a bunch of holds. one from vcom and another from wvsom. lmu wants to wait for my physics grade. I got accepted for spring matriculation into umdnj's post bach program. I figured I might as well get it started in case i don't get in somewhere and have to reapply, ill have a semester of postbacc under my belt already. On a side note, I just did a little gpa calculation and if I get A's in my retakes this semester my gpa bumps up a good amount. my sci goes from a 2.94 to a 3.21. Thats pretty significant, hopefully it bodes well for my apps still out there.

western is a crazy good school. good luck man

alls it takes is one

also, dr. ctother. the trolls are driving me nuts. like whats harder to get into? dental or osteopathic schools? you gotta be kidding me?.....

Only 2 1/2 weeks until my winter vacation....one of the perks of working for an academic institution 🙂

I was kind of late in the application game...rather long story...I was screwed over and scrambled to get my secondaries out. Was very surprised to get an interview with PCOM-GA 🙂 Interviewed on 11/23 so now I'm just sitting tight until the admissions committee meets. Hopefully I'll be getting the greatest Christmas gift ever 😀

Since I'm at work, I probably shouldn't be on SDN...so away I go!

Im pretty happy about Western but also not feeling too confident. I mean at the end of the day, even if my interview goes well I still have a low GPA. last year 600 were interviewed for 200 spots...so who knows. That is a huge jump in GPA if you get As, I hope you ace finals! I secretly am always rooting for underdogs and I hope you get some goods news soon! Seems like you cant go wrong with your post-bac idea, its definitely a good back up plan! I dont have a back up plan yet lol I need to start applying to post-bacs in 2 weeks after my 2 interviews. I wish I could go to UMDNJ but they dont accept Canadians lol

Which courses are you retaking? I retook BIO II in the summer and I am retaking OChem II right now. If I can pull off an A in Ochem II, my GPA will have gone up by 0.2 as well🙂 so I should be around a 3.2-3.3🙂

haha even though I add to the problem by commenting, I cant help it. Something makes me want to prove trolls wrong.....even though I know I am feeding them😛

I guess my short term SDN goal will be to not post on those threads:laugh:

As much as I dislike the trolls...I have to say, SDN would be a boring place without them 🙂

I'm just sitting here wondering what the heck I should do......do i apply to postbaccs/SMPs or should I do a cert program that will most likely NOT help me get into med school...or should i just continue to take more bio classes.

I'm bored too.🙁

What are your stats like, punk? If your GPA isn't too bad, I'd just study for the MCAT and aim for 28+. I wouldn't do a cert. I would most likely do a Master's program if I had to do something. SMP should be your last option because if you mess that up you are done.

After this semester, I'm looking at 3.1-3.2, but next semester is should be slightly higher..I hope.

Yea, I'd just study for the MCAT, assuming you can get 28+.

Really?? Uhmm....something to think about.

I think just studying for the MCAT would be a boring year.... What if you got your CNA certification and did that? The you'd get lots of patient contact and do better on the MCAT!

Well, my current job I get some patient contact and I have most of my LORs....I was thinking something only the lines that would benefit me in med school.

PG you can always walk me to class every morning at TUCOM and buy me coffee on the way. I'll even hold your hand 👍

CB....since we are on the PRE-DO forum and not Lounge...I'll refrain from what I really want to post........... nice version= No, thank you.😎

western sounds interested in you. they wouldnt have invited you if they didn't like you on paper. numbers are just that numbers and honestly, if you can convey why you have a lower than average gpa and not come off as giving excuses, but explaining what went wrong and what you learned from it and spin it in a positive way then you should be fine. i wish you the best of luck,

as for the classes im retaking, bio 1 and physics 1. so far my first 2 physics exams have been 102 and 100. all of my bio exams i have pulled the highest grades in the class (the prof gives out statistics without names) with 114, 114 and 109 (he has this weird curve thing but he believes the class average for all exams should be a 75 so if its not he will curve the average up to that. first exam I got a 97 but the class average was a 58 so the whole class got a 17 point curve). yeah man, it seems like retakes help your gpa out a lot. go for it if you have anything thats a C or lower, maybe even as a high as a C+ if you know youll do better. i just cant wait for these next grades to come out.

take more bio classes? if its more upper levels and you wouldnt be retaking a bad grade then it could take a good amount of time. Well a long amount of time if you have a lot of credits to boost your gpa. I would not do a cert program for sure. def. go for a masters/post bacc. i wouldn't consider an smp too much money imo.

theres so many other ways to get patient interaction than bieng a CNA. plus you don't have to deal with cleaning patients all day long. if i had to do that all day i would lose it. and no I know doctors have to disimpact a lot of patients, but thats not there sole job. as a cna thats all you do is feed and clean. I respect cna's but its a pretty thankless job thats def. not for everyone and i have seen a LOT of bad cna's who do it just because its a job (althought they usually aren't compensated very well). I would pick a more interesting way to get patient contact. try and apply for a job as a medical assistant or something or er tech or some type of tech.
it was a good suggestion but i think if your going to be a cna, then you have to have it in your heart to rreally love doing it. I would think someone who is doing it for exposure into the medical field would not be a good candidate as a cna. just my 2 cents

give him a chance, you don't even know the guy and your shutting him down? you guys could be really good together.

Yea, I think I'm just going to apply to postbac/MS programs as well as med and see what happens.

Give him a chance for what????
.

A chance to hold your hand and walk to class with you obviously! lol

I know this.. However, I've heard straight from a member of an ADCOM that the really like CNA's because you care directly for a patient.

😡 HECK NO!!!!!!! He's a munchkin.

AM NOT!!!
