Service question.

Today I did two events of community service...but they totaled 5 hours. They were short and only occur once a month, but I said any community service is good. My question is, I did do things worth talking about (distributed out food, talked with the people incl a Vietnam Vet) but I'm kind of concerned about the hours. I know I've seen that volunteer hours aren't as important as the experience, but I mean...5 hours...anyone have any comment here?

Continue doing and show that you're devoted to it over time. You can still do other things at the same time.

If you're going to list just five hours on the application, I wouldn't do it. If you're going to continue doing over the long term (a year or two), I would include it.

I'm going to go again either next month, or the month after that (depending on how it works out time wise with the Summer classes I'm taking). Unfortuntately I don't have a year to apply so I'll do it for another 2 months or so.

Is 3 months "okay" duration? I know it should be more but I'm really strapped for time, so I'm just wondering.

If it's important to you, you won't be strapped for time. I don't think even two or three 5-hour stints is anything noteworthy. Have you done anything other volunteering/service?

I have 12 hours of nursing home from 2008. I'm going back to round it up to around 20-30. 182 from another hospital from 2004 - 2011 (I got hired as an intern so I stopped volunteering). 12 hrs from another hospital that I wrote a part of their PNT committee paper. Did service as a part of a club - 4 hrs, 5 hrs, 4 hrs. 4 hrs (another club).
