I had an interview there. Seemed nice. When/if you go to your interview, they will do a very good job of telling you about the program, area... They were very thorough when I went there. The floors seem very organized and there was very little reported scut work. The hospital is very clean and people seemed happy. The main problems I have with the program are
1) overnight 24 hour call q4 on floor mos
2) no fellowship opportunities @ trinitas/in house. The residents repeatedly said that this was the major drawback.
If you don't mind the schedule and are not set on a fellowship, it seemed like a really great place!
Otherwise, the academics seemed great.
Reputation: don't know much about it
Area: Elizabeth-seems safe to me, very residential, the 4th largest city in NJ, however, St. Michael's--is in NEWARK. Kind of a rough and tumble, but up and coming city. You spend 3 mos (or maybe 2?) @ St. Michael's.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

hey thanks for the reply jopdo,

That was almost everything I wanted to know although I was under the impression that there were fellowships. This coming from the email to interview. They probably meant under the Seton Hall "Umbrella."

1- Do you think they offer prematch at trinitas?
2-FRIEDA put them as having night float, this is not true?

Thanks again jopdo!

Hi again,
Yep, the fellowships are at St. Michael's and, should you do residency @ Trinitas you will rotate through there and have dibs on doing your electives there, thereby increasing your chances for fellowship there. Also, you can apply to the St. Michael's program (but this is mysterious how to do?!?), I asked during the interview and you have to contact the medicine department to try and set up an interview.
PREMATCH: I don't know the answer to your question, but, at my interview, a student from a Caribbean school was offered a position since he had recently finished his coursework and they had some open spots. I am not sure if this really qualifies as "prematching".
NIGHT FLOAT: in addition to their call schedule they DO indeed have a night float system. The night float team takes care of admissions so that the people on call only have to deal with complaints on the floor. And, evidently, because of the great ancillary staff, the calls on the floor are limited to those that are more urgent than your average. This was according to residents and the info session we had. Hope this helps...
