Until just a few minutes ago, I was under the impression that my sGPA was somewhere around the 3.1ish range, but I just realized that Calc 1, 2, and Statistics count as sGPA, and so I'm ACTUALLY down to a 2.997.

I'm currently doing a SMP trying to get the sGPA up, but I've heard a lot of talk about applications getting screened out based on undergrad GPA, usually right at 3.0. So my question is, is it possible, or likely, that my application will never make it to an adcoms desk even if my SMP GPA is like a 4.0??

Man, I've been working my ass off in this SMP and just got a pretty solid MCAT score. Please, someone tell me this isn't how it works.

Is it possible to retake any of your lower grades to try to boost your cGPA to 3.1-3.2?

Sorry, meant sGPA 😛
I'm not sure that I could. I left my undergrad and am now in a SMP. It would be pretty difficult and also it would mean an even further delay to when I wanted to apply. Do you think I would need to, even though I'm taking 2 semesters of pure science classes?

Oh fail, my reading comprehension at night is not working. Somehow missed that you wrote that above. I'm not too familiar with how SMPs work and what not for folks in your situation. You could try asking any advisers you may know in your program. Consider this a free bump/apology for wasting your time. 😳

Your sgpa will be evaluated distinctly from your SMP. If the screener (human or digital) has a hard cut-off of 3.0 for gpa you will not progress to the next phase of evaluation.

The undergrad sGPA will show up as a separate number on your primary app, if that's what you're asking. With SMP vs. undergrad GPA consideration it really depends on the school, but for the most part you will be fine. Most schools see a strong SMP performance as an indication that you can perform better than what your undergrad numbers imply (i.e. they will not auto-screen SMP students & postbaccs). I wouldn't retake undergrad courses just to boost that sGPA, especially if you're doing so well in your postbacc. Plus AMCAS rounds to the nearest 100th, so your 2.997 will verify as a 3.00! Just keep focusing on your SMP work and if everything else is solid, you will be fine in the app cycle. Best of luck! :luck:

I got 6 interviews and one acceptance with a sGPA of 2.99, without the assistance of an SMP It can be done. Find the schools that autoscreen (either look on their website or ask them) and then avoid them. Otherwise if your SMP GPA is good then you should be find for medical school if you apply broadly and early.

Wow! I didn't know they would round up like that. Phew. Thank you so much for the info and encouragement, I had a pretty big freak out moment because of this.

is stats really that hard? I dont need to take calc II but now im getting a bit worried about stats...

No, it's actually very easy. My problem was that, if I went to class at all, I would sleep through it, and then I would walk into exams without studying because I thought I was the ****. I was very immature in the beginning of my undergrad, to say the least...

Just don't be cocky about it and you will be fine. It's normally seen as a science gpa booster.

Can you please suggest schools that will consider oos, low GPA, mcat > 37 ? Third cycle, couldn't get any smp, gpa> 3, 2 said need clinical work, been doing that , applied broadly and early last cycle and this, heard nothing yet. Last year for mcat to be valid... losing my mind.
