Hi,

I have an interview for SGU soon. I wanted some help to prepare for it. I am very nervous as this will be my first interview for any medical school. I am more concerned about my knowledge of the american health care system. As well I am not sure how to describe my extracurricular activities. Just the thought of being interviewed for 45 minutes is overwhelming. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I had my SGU interview, I was nervous too, as it was also my first interview. From what I hear from my classmates and from my interview experience, the SGU interviews are usually pretty laidback. The interviewer is most likely going to be a SGU alumni. I had a guy who had just graduated from SGU the year before. He was mainly concerned about whether or not I had the correct impression of the island, the school and the education that I would get there. He asked basic interview questions (why do you want to be a doctor, personal strengths and weaknesses, etc) Most of the interview was very friendly and conversational. At the end, I was asked to write and essay. I had to choose one out of three topics on what to write about. The whole interview was about 30 minutes. Just relax, be yourself and be truthful. Good luck.

SGU interviews are very laid back. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't take them seriously but don't be nervous. Most important things are to be genuine, truthful, optimistic and humble. I don't think you need to know a great deal about the US healthcare system, etc. Since this is your first interview you'll probably be asked as to why you applied to SGU without applying to US Med school first (a question that I'd like to know the answer to as well 🙂 They will also try to plug the MPH program at the end, but if you are not interested just be honest and let them know that.

Have Fun

Hi thank you both,

I will review my autobiographical sketch before I go, and read up on some ethical delimmas facing doctors. I guess, I am more nervous about the outcome of my interview and this has sort of dominated my thought process and prevented me from focusing on the important things. I have applied to other US medical schools, but I have no qualms about attending St. George and have the same hopes for it that I do for any other medical school.

Will telling my interviewer that :

"I would like to go to SGU, because I have read the brochure and find the campus and the environment very conducive to learning. As well I am commited to pursuing medicine and would cherish the opportunity to attend SGU and complete my medical studies there."

be too vague, because for me it is the truth.

Hey when did you get the letter telling you that they would accpect you for an interview. I got mine way back in november and I'm still waiting to hear from Bayshore about a possible interview. I would prefer SGU over AUC but AUC is the only place that I've heard from. Don't wanna wait too long otherwise I won't get my deposit back from AUC 🙁
