Hey Everyone
I recieved an e-mail from my opt. school and they want all the entering optometry students to shadow some optometrists before the fall semester. My school also wants us to shadow an optometrist in an interdisciplinary optometric/ophthalmology setting. I live in NJ and I know like a lot of private and retail settings but i am having a hard time finding this type of setting. How can i search for this and where do these types of doctors work usually though.
Any thoughts and thanks for reading!

Hi sweetzpassion, I say check out your local VA hospital. They have the interdiciplinary (optician/optometrist/ophthalmologist) type setting you're looking for. The hospital was very welcoming to volunteers. Plus I was able to stay as long as I wanted. I was able to shadow/volunteer the entire summer (2-3x a week). But if you just want a one day type of thing, I am sure there are private practice interdiciplinary groups out there that you could check into, you just have to call and ask around...just a suggestion 🙂

There are a few offices of Omni Eye Services around NJ -- they are also student-friendly (our school has a few 4th year externs there). They're a private teritiary care type of practice.

hey this is sort of off topic, but im having trouble deciding what classes i should take next fall. im going to be a sophomore and im trying to decide whether or not i should take organic chemistry or wait my junior year. do you know if the second half of organic chem is on the OAT? when do most people take the OAT anyways? ill be taking physics, zoology, and english in the fall. should i wait to take o-chem? could you let me know what your schedule was like when you took your pre-reqs

I took organic chem in junior year. The second half of orgo is on OAT. I took gen chem 1 and 2 during sophomre yr with physics, and bio classes. It worked out fine with me. Most people take the OAT during the summer before senior yr or during junior yr. I took it in the month of october of senior year..
Hope it helps.....
